Learn More About Matt

Have you always lived in Central Florida? Where do you consider home?

I grew up in South Carolina and moved to Clermont in 2001.

Are you a homeowner? When did you buy your first and/or current home?

I bought my first home in 1994 for $52,500. I sold it 2 years later for $62,500 and thought I was rich. I actually was. I bought my first Clermont home in 2002, my current Clermont home in 2017, and am building a brand-new one in 2020.

Do you have any hobbies? What do you do when you’re not working?

No hobbies – I used to play basketball. Now I go to the gym three to four times a week. My wife, Gina, and I love to eat out. We’ve been to every restaurant around town (we think).

What’s something you’ve learned and/or surprised you about real estate after becoming an agent?

I’ve been surprised by how much work it is. Real estate is a very labor-intensive job. Also, I’ve been surprised by how much I enjoy it. I’ve always enjoyed working with people, but this is on a higher level. I like being the trusted one who gets the job done.

Where does your inspiration come from when it comes to selling real estate?

I am inspired to work hard in real estate so that it rewards me with freedom. Freedom to say “yes” to Gina and myself regarding the priorities and ambitions of our life together. I also want to build a business that provides jobs and makes a measurable difference in the lives of those who are employed and served by our business.

How has your personal life blended into your life as an agent in a positive way?

Being Gina’s husband and being a past educator has been a great help to me as an agent. Many of our former colleagues have sold and purchased a home with me. Also, there is not other way to be an agent than to be myself. I’m learning how to do that more and more. My clients and colleagues have enjoyed working with me the more authentic I’ve become.

What are your favorite things about living in Clermont/Central Florida?

The crime – we have none. The hills and the lakes. The variety of people and cultures we have here. I love that the whole world lives in Clermont. You can go to one neighborhood garage sale and talk to people from 6 different cultures in one morning. It is wonderful.

Is there anything else you’d like people to know to get to know you a little better?

I am the founder and majority owner of this office, but I don’t do this work alone. We are a team of 5 but over the years we’ve had 13 people work with us plus 2 college interns. All of them made valuable contributions to our culture and our progress. The best thing about our business is the quality people we have working here. I’m very happy with whom I have surrounded myself. I want more people like the ones we have.
